About

Thanks for stopping by! I am a 25-year-old midwestern woman who mostly spends time reading, planning activities with my partner, Sam, and hanging out with the animals, George (a handsome orange tomcat), Andi Reid (a sweet hound-mix pup whose mother was none-the-wiser to the fact that she was named after a the Chief’s football coach as a shelter promotion), and Mazikeen (a newly adopted black cat and owner of my soul).

Although reading was a passion when I was young, the love slowly drifted away when it began to feel more like a chore. I read all the YA classics–The Hunger Games, Divergent, Mortal Instruments, etc. Eventually class readings and studying took the place of casual reading and all of my free time was spent elsewhere. It wasn’t until I found another love that the passion started to return.

In college, I fell in love with animal personality and welfare. I delved into books by the likes of Frans de Waal, Lucy Cooke, Jennifer Ackerman, Sy Montgomery, Brian Hare, and more. I will forever be grateful to these authors for the impact they’ve made on my life and the lives of the animals they advocate for.

It was this genre that pushed me towards animal behavior research in college and on to graduate with a Bachelor of Science. After an unfulfilling job search, I spent my time participating in pastimes previously forgotten. This included running, art, and reading.

I jumped immediately into Samantha Shannon, followed by Sarah J. Maas and Penelope Douglas. I quickly realized I had spent over four hundred dollars on my new hobby in the matter of a few months. I finally found that passion I was looking for (and realized I should get a Kindle and spend more time at the library). Although I’m only just jumping back into this world, I’m more than excited to throw myself into it. There are so many brilliant books out there waiting to be read and I am inspired to read as many as humanly possible.

I am so happy to share that I am beginning my journey in an MFA program for creative writing this fall! I would cherish the opportunity to one day be an established author. In addition, I hope to work as some manner of book publisher to be a part of the process that releases these wonderful works to the world. I look forward to what the future has to offer.

I am excited to present this blog not only as an opportunity to share my thoughts and recommendations from my readings, but also to get to know fellow readers and friends with the same interests as myself. Although I am primarily engrossed in fantasy, romance, horror, and mystery, I will read any good book that promises great characters and an alluring plot. I’m still relatively new here and look forward to growing with this new and wonderful world.
